A faction of the SYRIZA Progressive Alliance held a meeting today with the new commander of the EYP, after the reports according to which some high-ranking members of the National Intelligence Service have given orders to destroy material related to the well-known issue of wiretapping. The echelon consisted of the deputy of Arta and Secretary of K.O. of SYRIZA Parliamentary Party Olga Gerovasilis, and the Member of Parliament 1st Eastern Attica and head of Citizen Protection of K.O. of SYRIZA PS Christos Spirtzis,
After the meeting they made the following statements:
Olga Gerovasili: Following the revelations that came to light today according to which some high-ranking members of the National Intelligence Service have given orders to destroy material related to the well-known issue of surveillance-wiretapping, we asked to see the new commander of the National Intelligence Service. To express our concern, to insist, to emphasize the need for an in-depth investigation and that in any case from our side but also from the side of the progressive world of the country, such type of practices will not be tolerated. This was the subject of our discussion. We will closely monitor such a big issue which is disturbing, a scandal which is shaking the political life of the country today. Obviously we can’t help but keep our attention constantly on this, so that no facts are covered up and thus this scandal is revealed one day. Apart from the political leader who really is Mr. Mitsotakis. Not to cover up facts but to give answers to the Greek people.
Journalist’s question: What did Mr. Demiris tell you?
Mr. Demiris will tell you this, not us.
We are fully aware of the role of the new director of the National Intelligence Service and certainly will not act or speak in any unethical manner.
Christos Spirtzis: I think that after the information you had from the Secretary of the SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance Committee, it turns out that SYRIZA-PS is the party that remains true to its role both in ensuring democracy in our country, transparency and rights for today and for tomorrow .but also for the prestige and operation of state structures and especially sensitive state structures such as the National Intelligence Service.
