NATO: Turkey, Finland, Sweden continue discussions on Turkish concerns in the fall

According to the Reuters agency, officials from the three countries had their first meeting today in Vanda city of southern Finland.

In fact, the foreign minister of Finland Peka Haavisto he said how the meeting was intended to establish contacts and set goals for cooperation which the countries agreed to by signing a memorandum of understanding at the NATO summit in Madrid in June.

“The participants discussed concrete steps for the implementation of the Tripartite Memorandum and agreed that this format will continue to meet at expert level during the autumn,” the Finnish Foreign Ministry said in a statement issued after the meeting.

It is recalled that the two Nordic countries applied to become NATO members in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, but faced opposition from Turkey who accused them of imposing an arms embargo on Ankara and supporting organizations he described as terrorist.

In fact, Ankara, which has been conducting for the last few months military operations in Kurdish lands in Syriaargued from the beginning, that the two Nordic countries have given shelter to members of the Kurdish PKK, which it describes as a terrorist organization.
