Nayib Bukele: Representatives of 44 countries will gather in El Salvador to discuss bitcoin and digital assets

President of El Salvador Nayib Bukele said that today, on May 16, a conference with representatives of 44 fears will be held in the country, within which it is planned to discuss the use of bitcoin for payments.

The event will bring together central bankers and government officials from developing countries, including Nigeria, Egypt, Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Paraguay, Angola, Guinea and Madagascar. Note that it is not yet clear whether the use of bitcoin will be the main agenda of the meeting, or one of the secondary issues.

“Representatives from 32 central banks and 12 regulators from 44 countries will meet in El Salvador to discuss financial inclusion, the digital economy, access to banking services, work with bitcoin and the benefits that bitcoin has brought to our country,” – wrote President of El Salvador.

Recall that on September 7 last year, the authorities of El Salvador recognized bitcoin as legal tender. After that, the government of the country began gradual purchases of the first cryptocurrency. To date, 2,301 BTC have been accumulated on wallets owned by the El Salvadorian government. At the current exchange rate, this is just over $68 million.
