Lenovo and NEC promised to release something special, and now it came out – called the NEC LAVIE Mini. This is a kind of hybrid of a regular laptop and a portable game console like the Nintendo Switch.

The NEC LAVIE Mini is equipped with 11th Gen Intel Core processors (up to Core i7-1180G7), an 8-inch 1920 x 1200 display, 16GB LPDDR4 memory and 256GB flash. Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 are also supported, there are two USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C ports and two 1.5W speakers, an infrared camera working in tandem with Windows Hello biometric authentication.

The dimensions are small, therefore the battery capacity is only 26 Wh. The developers managed to place a full-size (almost) keyboard with round keys and an optical trackpad for cursor control on the working panel – there was simply no place for a regular touchpad.

For a surcharge, the NEC LAVIE Mini can be equipped with a game controller that turns the laptop into a kind of game console. The controller is divided into two halves – with such “ears” the device strongly resembles a Nintendo Switch. Another optional accessory is the docking station, which turns your laptop into a mini-monitor. This docking station charges your device.

When it will be released and how much the NEC LAVIE Mini will cost, it is too early to say: the companies say that the device shown in the pictures is just a prototype.
