Neca Setubal: Young people need to talk about their difficulties and be heard

CNN Specialist in social inclusion, Neca Setubal, commented this Thursday (28) about the return of students and teachers to face-to-face teaching in schools, amid a series of concerns involving education in Brazil and in the world.

On the date that marks World Education Day, Setubal highlighted the importance of the school and the work of teachers, and highlighted that, in the scenario of the return of face-to-face classes, care must be taken with the emotional health of both students and educators.

For the specialist, the daily reports of aggression among young people are a reflection of the difficulty in returning to post-pandemic socialization.

“They [os jovens] they need to talk about their difficulties and be heard by the teachers, but these teachers also need to be heard and, above all, they need to be trained to deal with this context”, he said.

According to Setubal, several organizations have been developing activities for schools to work with the socio-emotional skills of children and adolescents, which can help to create a climate of coexistence, even in the face of aggressive times.

THE CNN Specialist also addressed the phenomenon of school dropout, an issue observed around the world during the pandemic, and warned those who have not yet returned to school, asking for help for the community and families.

“As that famous African saying goes, it takes an entire village to raise a child. Education should not be a priority only in speech, but in the day to day of public policies, schools and all of us”, he concluded.
