Negotiations on the release of Hamas hostages are “coming close to an end”, says White House

United States National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said on Monday (20) that negotiators were “getting close to the end” of negotiations on the release of Hamas hostages, but refused to go into details about a possible agreement.

He also declined to comment on CCTV footage that Israel says shows two hostages being transported through Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza on October 7.

“I know everyone is interested in the numbers and who they will be. We are working on this literally in real time with both sides. So I think it’s best not to speculate about what it will be like. Obviously, we’re focused on the American citizens who we know are being held hostage and we want them to get out, all of them, they should all get out now,” said Kirby, when asked by MJ Lee of CNN if any of those who could be released would be American citizens.

When asked what level of confidence the White House has that the American hostages are alive, Kirby responded by saying, “I would say we have no indication otherwise.”
