After the success of the first season, the series “Heartstopper” was renewed for the production of two more seasons by Netflix.
The news was announced through the platform’s social networks, and reproduced by the actors, who are present on social networks and interact frequently with the public. Joe Locke and Kit Connor, who play the leads, celebrated the achievement.
In its opening week, the production entered the global Top 10 of Netflix’s most watched series, being watched for 14.5 million hours. The registered week started on April 18th and ended on April 24th – the series premiered on April 22nd, which means this number represents just three days of counting.
“Heartstopper” tells the story of a group of LGBTQIA+ teens, focusing on Charlie Spring (Locke) and Nick Nelson (Connor), who fall in love at school. The trajectory of the two covers topics such as the discovery of attractions and bullying.
The series was inspired by the comics drawn by Alice Oseman, who publishes them for free on the internet – even after the book and television production of the franchise. She participated in the production of the series, and also dialogues with the public on the networks.
In an interview with Radio Times, Oseman stated that he believes four seasons would be ideal to “account for” the story.
Oscar-nominated actress Olivia Colman made a cameo in the first season, playing Nelson’s mother – it has yet to be announced if she will return for the next installments, but fans have expressed the desire on Twitter and Instagram.
