The Association of European Businesses (AEB) has published a report on new car sales in the Russian market. As of November 2021, sales totaled 125,466 vehicles. Thus, the market decreased by 20.4% (by 32 114 units) compared to the same period last year. Nevertheless, if we take into account the result in annual terms, it is positive (+ 6.9%).
According to the report, Lada, Kia, Hyundai, Renault and Toyota cars were sold the most in November. Least of all – Opel, Cadillac, FIAT and Infiniti. The largest growth was shown by such automakers as Genesis (+ 1037%), Chevrolet (+ 348%), Haval (+ 202%) and Chery (+ 174%). The AEB plans to announce the final results of this year in a month.
AEB Automobile Manufacturers Committee Chairman Thomas Staertzel noted that December is often a good month for car sales, but not this year. In his opinion, the trend will continue next year. This is influenced by such negative factors as production cuts, semiconductor shortages and logistical problems. The situation in the Russian market is also aggravated by the regulations initiated by the government, Shtärzel said. In particular, the draft decree of the government of the Russian Federation, which implies an almost 9-fold increase in the rate of utilization fee for electric vehicles. This could lead to higher prices for electric vehicles and lower sales.
