New grief for Queen Elizabeth, Sir Timothy Colman, her great friend, died

There seems to be no peace this year for the Queen Elizabeth. After the death of her husband Filippo, the attacks on the family by Harry and Meghan and the legal events of the third son Andrea, a new pain has hit the sovereign: he is dead Sir Timothy Colman, his great friend. Colman disappeared at the age of 91 in his home in Norfolk, not far from the royal residence of Sandringham, of which he has always been a frequent visitor.

Former member of the Royal Navy, Colman had joined the royal family in 1948 when, during a leave of absence, he met Mary, eldest daughter of Michael Bowes-Lyon, brother of the queen mother. After an engagement kept secret for almost three years, the wedding in 1951, from which five children were born: Sarah, Sabrina, Emma, James and Matthew. A happy union, broken only last January, when Mary passed away at 88. It was she who reported the anecdote according to which Uncle George VI defined his daughters Lilibet and Margaret, respectively, “pride” and “joy”.

Such a close family bond, over time, has been cemented by a deep friendship. Colman was the Queen’s representative in Norfolk, as Lord Lieutenant, role he held from 1978 to 2004. Twenty-six years of service, including public engagements, events and awards, all in the name of the queen. A role Sir Colman was very proud of. “I am thrilled, deeply honored but humbled to receive such recognition from the queen, for whom I have the greatest admiration and respect,” he said, accepting the post.

Elizabeth II has always had the utmost confidence in her step-cousin, who today it adds to the many losses of his life.
