New negative case records frighten Cuba and Mexico

The Cuban Ministry of Health announced on Thursday that 65 patients with COVID-19 had died in the past 24 hours and 7,745 cases of SARS-CoV-2 had been confirmed, an unprecedented number.

The Pan-American Health Organization, part of the World Health Organization, described the increase in deaths and cases in the country as “dramatic” the day before yesterday.

The death toll from the new coronavirus pandemic on the Caribbean island has so far reached 2,137 dead out of a total of 308,599 infections. Despite the continuing deterioration of the epidemiological situation, it remains low compared to those of other countries in the Latin American and Caribbean region. As announced, 37 of the cases were identified during checks at the country’s gates.

Yesterday, the western tourist province of Matanza, the epicenter of the current pandemic, recorded 1,779 cases in 24 hours, followed by Havana (1,222), Chievo de λαvila (976) and Cienfuegos (840).

There was also a record number of cases among children (1,351).

As part of the immunization campaign with domestically produced vaccines Abdala and Soberana 2 has received at least one dose 30% of the population so far. Cuban authorities hope to have vaccinated 70% of the population (11.3 million people) in August.

Mexico: Over 16,000 cases and 419 deaths in 24 hours

The Mexican Ministry of Health announced on Thursday that 419 patients with COVID-19 had died in the past 24 hours and 16,244 cases of SARS-CoV-2 had been confirmed, the highest number of infections since the end of January for a second consecutive day.

The death toll from Mexico’s new coronavirus pandemic of 126 million has so far risen to 237,626, with a total of 2,709,739 infections.

The Mexican government acknowledges that the official record, the 4th heaviest in the world, is undervalued. Data on over-mortality recently released by the Ministry of Health showed that deaths due to COVID-19 are probably at least 60% more than confirmed.

Brazil: Over 1,400 deaths and almost 50,000 cases in 24 hours

The Brazilian Ministry of Health announced yesterday Thursday that 1,412 patients with COVID-19 died in the previous 24 hours and 49,757 cases of SARS-CoV-2 were confirmed.

The death toll from the new coronavirus pandemic in Latin America, the largest country to date, stands at 547,016, with a total of 19,523,711 infections.

Brazil, with a population of 212 million, officially has the second highest death toll in the world, behind only the United States, and the third highest number of infections in the world, behind the United States and India.

However, experts consider the official report to be undervalued.

Morocco: Deaths exceed 9,500, cases close to 570,000

The Moroccan Ministry of Health announced on Thursday that the confirmed cases of SARS-CoV-2 increased by 1,402 in 24 hours, reaching 567,758.

During the same period, 19 patients with COVID-19 died, increasing the new coronavirus pandemic to 9,517 deaths so far.

493 patients are treated in the intensive care units (ICU) of Moroccan hospitals.

Since January 28, when the mass immunization campaign in the country of 37 million people began – using mainly the drug of the Chinese pharmaceutical industry Sinopharm – at least 11.56 million people have received the vaccine, of which 9.73 million and the second.
