New Year: countries celebrate arrival of 2023; see images

The New Year is already celebrated in Oceania countries.

Weather forecast

In Brazil, the expectation is for a very different scenario in climatic conditions.

Storms can hit areas of Rio de Janeiro, southern Minas Gerais and northern São Paulo. As well as the western half of Mato Grosso, Amazonas, Southeast and Northeast of Pará, Maranhão and Piauí. In Rio Grande do Sul, the last day of the year will be sunny and intensely hot.

The year 2022 ends with sun and heat in the South Region. Some cities in western Rio Grande do Sul will register temperatures close to 40°C because of a warm air mass influencing the region. Rain showers may occur in the afternoon and early evening in Paraná (except in the Southwest/South of the state). There is a forecast of transient rain in the Itajaí Valley, North plateau and North coast of Santa Catarina.

Instability areas of the South Atlantic convergence zone still act over part of the Southeast region of Brazil. In most areas of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais, it rains several times, with the risk of lightning. In the Center-East of Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo, the sun appears most of the day and there are showers from the afternoon onwards. Sunny and rainless day in the North of Minas Gerais.

Instability areas in the South Atlantic convergence zone still affect part of the Midwest region. The sun predominates all day only on the border of Mato Grosso do Sul with Paraguay. The rest of the region has a day with many clouds, showers with frequent lightning and sunny periods. There is a risk of heavy rain in all states.

A cyclonic vortex at high levels (VCAN) causes a lot of cloudiness and rain showers over almost the entire Northeast region of Brazil. In Maranhão, Piauí, Ceará, in the hinterland of Pernambuco and west of Bahia there are conditions for showers with lightning during the day, but with periods of sun. Day with many clouds and rain that can be moderate to heavy on the coast between Rio Grande do Norte and Alagoas. The sun predominates in the sertão of Pernambuco and Paraíba. Sunny day with light rain on the north coast of Bahia and Sergipe.

The areas of instability of the South Atlantic convergence zone continue over northern Brazil. Every region ends the year 2022 with a lot of cloudiness and several rain showers with lightning. There is a risk of moderate to heavy rain across the region.
