Newborn dies on cruise ship: mother arrested for voluntary homicide

A newborn baby dies on board a cruise ship off the coast of Argentario. The drama hit the news today after part of the Silver Whisper's crew raised the alarm. A young 28 year old Filipino woman would have given birth on board her. She is also part of the crew and no one would have noticed her pregnancy. The woman was arrested on charges of voluntary homicide on a warrant from the Grosseto prosecutor's office. She would not give any explanations for what happened.

Colleagues raised the alarm. They heard cries coming from the cabin and then these cries stopped. The newborn's body was in the cabin that the mother shared with others. The police searched it together with other rooms on the ship. There were also interrogations of all crew members.

The child's death was not caused by suffocation, but the child may have been left alone in the cabin without food or medical care. An autopsy will probably also be done understand whether the pregnancy had reached term or not. The woman, now hospitalized, would have been in a confused state. Those questioned confirmed that they had not noticed her pregnancy, neither from her physique nor due to problems or ailments.
