Newborns buried in Parma, Chiara Petrolini’s lawyer: “The family asks for confidentiality”

She did not respond to the investigating judge of the Parma court: Chiara Petrolini, the 22-year-old under house arrest accused of premeditated murder and suppression of a corpse, after the discovery of the two dead newborns in the garden of her house in Vignale di Traversetolo (here is the story reconstructed by the prosecutor in a press conference), has availed of the right not to answer.

Her lawyer, Nicola Tria, clarified that this is a “technical” choice: “Chiara has availed herself of the right not to answer today: it is obvious that this does not mean, and I want to make this clear, that I cannot make statements at another time or submit to interrogation. As she also did, as you have been told, on two previous occasions, once presenting herself spontaneously, once being interrogated. So, this – I repeat – is a strictly technical choice. She was interrogated and I I believe he also provided a contribution that was by no means irrelevant to the reconstruction of the facts».

The lawyer also wanted to launch an appeal on behalf of the Chiara Petrolini’s family, who ask that “the privacy of each of its members be respected in some waythe suffering that this story has caused and is causing and that the legitimate silence that they have chosen to maintain in this story is also respected. A tragic story from whatever point of view you want to look at it and also particularly complex, I believe”.

Lawyer Nicola Tria also stated that he has “no intention of participating in parallel trials in the mediato anticipate choices or defensive strategies”. “I am firmly convinced that, beyond the media hype surrounding this affair and the value of your work”, he said, referring to journalists, “trials are held in court and that is the only exclusive place where responsibilities are ascertained and facts are reconstructed”.
