NFTs can now also be placed on the Litecoin network

An analogue of the Ordinals protocol appeared in the Litecoin blockchain, which allowed users to place various objects in the form of images, text, videos, and in other formats. Writes about it Cointelegraph.

Developer Anthony Guerrero admitted that it took him a week to complete this “extremely simple” task. The motivation was a reward of 22 LTC (~$2065). He posted the code in GitHub.

The specialist updated the Ordinals code to work with input data from the Litecoin network. He took into account parameters that differ between blockchains, such as the supply limit and the difference in block creation time.

The first object that he posted due to the transfer of the protocol was the MimbleWimble white paper. In May, the developers activated this update on the Litecoin network.

Guerrero explained that the launch of a mechanism for creating NFT-like “inscriptions” in Litecoin became possible thanks to the adaptation of updates Taproot And Segwit bitcoin networks.

According to the developer, unlike the blockchain of the first cryptocurrency, where the placement of objects can cost about a dozen dollars, in Litecoin this operation will require “about two cents.”

The situation is also simpler with the block space, which is twice as large as that of bitcoin. Guerrero did not rule out that in the future the issue of capacity will become more relevant.

The developer promised to adapt the Ordinals update code to the best of his ability. He did not rule out the transfer of supervision to other interested specialists.

Recall that on February 16, the number of bitcoin-NFTs from Ordinals crossed the threshold of 100,000.

Earlier, Glassnode analysts noted an increased load on the Bitcoin network due to the emergence of a new variety of non-fungible tokens.
