Nigeria: At least 26 people drowned after a boat capsized in a lake

At least 26 people died and others are missing after the overthrow one ship in lake in north central Nigeria.

Bologhi Ibrahim, a spokesman for the Niger state governor, said the boat was carrying more than 100 people, including women and children, to the Mokwa area. The victims were going to their farms.

“Twenty-six people, mostly women and children are confirmed dead, more than 30 people have been rescued, while a rescue operation is underway,” Ibrahim said.

In July, more than 100 people drowned when an overloaded boat capsized in a remote part of the same state, in one of the worst disasters in recent years.
