The Federal High Court in Abuja has postponed the hearing of the Binance cryptocurrency exchange's financial crimes case to June 14 due to the absence of the main accused, the company's top manager, who is being held in a Nigerian prison.

The real reason for the postponement was an interdepartmental conflict between the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and the Nigerian Correctional Service over the delivery of the head of the Binance financial crime department, Tigran Gambaryan, to the Federal High Court for a hearing. The top manager is accused of tax evasion.

The Federal Tax Service accused employees of the Correctional Service of failing to fulfill their official duties and failing to deliver the accused to the court hearing. FIRS lawyer Moses Idehu told Justice Emeka Nwite that the responsibility of bringing the accused to court lies with the Prison Service and not with Revenue officials. He said attempts to contact correctional center officials were unsuccessful.

Agreeing with the arguments, Judge Emeka Nwite postponed the date of filing charges against the Binance exchange and Gambarian.

Earlier, the Federal High Court in Abuja refused to release Tigran Gambaryan on bail. The court considered that the foreign top manager will try to avoid deserved punishment and intends to hide from the Nigerian justice authorities.
