Nina Silva: Carnival is the festival of popular and ancestral knowledge

After more than two years without parades, the party returns to the avenues. Suspended in February because of the health crisis caused by the Ômicron variant of the coronavirus, samba schools will return to perform between April 16 and 23 at the Sambódromo do Anhembi, in São Paulo, and at Sapucaí, in Rio de Janeiro. CNN specialist in technology and diversity, Nina Silva, spoke this Friday (22) about how the celebration of diversity and culture should appear at Carnival in São Paulo.

Back to the special group, Vai-Vai will honor African peoples with the samba-enredo Sankofa, symbol bird for thinkers of the modern black movement. In the line against religious intolerance, Águia de Ouro will parade through Anhembi the plot Afoxé de Oxalá — In the ‘processio de nabá’, a corner of light in times of darkness, in celebration of deities of African origin.

Baroque Zona Sul, Tatuapé and Mocidade Alegre also pay homage to black culture.

“It’s good that our stories and cosmovision are being narrated through the costumes, props, screams and smiles by those who experience it all year round”, said the expert.

“Make way for the festival of popular and ancestral knowledge, which has already contributed so much and has contributed pedagogically to the formation of critical and political thinking, to the intelligentsia in the form of books and theses, and which continues to be a great stimulus for the Brazilian economy. ”
