Nine dead and 15 injured from the attack of armed men in a gold mine in Peru

Gunmen launched an attack on Saturday at a gold mine owned by the Poderosa company in the northwestern region of La Libertad. Peruas announced by the country’s Minister of the Interior, Victor Torres Falcon, announcing that nine workers were killed and another 15 were injured.

The attackers opened fire on the workers and detonated explosive devices in the gold mine. A clash with the men of the security services followed, while four miners were held hostage.

In the gold minelocated in the Patas region, elite forces of the Peruvian police rushed in and managed to regain control of the facilities, arrest seven perpetrators and confiscate their weapons.

The Ministry of the Interior of Peru has announced the deployment of special forces in Patas that will accompany the local security services to combat the criminal gangs infesting the region.
