Niragongo volcano roars, Goma partially evacuated

To evacuate part of the city of Goma, due to the risk of its explosion volcano Niragongo, the Congolese authorities ordered this morning. Tens of thousands of people rushed to leave the area, according to a correspondent of the French Agency and broadcast by AMPE.

“At the moment, an explosion on the ground or at the bottom of the lake (s.s. Kivou) cannot be ruled out, which could take place after minimal warning signs, even without any warning signs ” The military governor of the region, General Konstantin Dima, told local media, referring to ten districts of the city that are in danger.

His statement was followed by the immediate abandonment by tens of thousands of residents to the southwest, to the Masisi area and to the border with Rwanda, which are a short distance away, as explained by AMPE.

At least 32 people were killed when a volcanic eruption occurred in Niragongo on Saturday.

From Saturday to Tuesday morning seismic tremors were recorded in the area “over 269”, according to the Goma Volcanological Observatory, and the earthquakes continued yesterday.
