No more cheap TVs? LG’s 32-inch and 55-inch LCD panels rise in price to their highest in six years

According to a source citing a study by Business Korea, the cost of LCD panels produced by LG for TVs and monitors in only one month, in April, increased by 3-7%. As a result, the price of 32-inch and 55-inch matrices reached the maximum level in six years, the cost of 65-inch panels is at a three-year maximum. Such price records have exceeded analysts’ expectations.

Along with this, the cost of matrices used in laptops is also growing: only recently, their price has jumped by 5-7%. For example, the price of a 17.3-inch panel, which is not the most popular diagonal, increased by 5% over the month, while the price of a 19.5-inch panel reached a six-year high.

But these price records are still far from the maximum. Thus, the inventory of LCD panels at distributors in the second quarter of 2021 fell to the lowest value, so that the growth will continue in the third quarter. In general, the growth in the cost of matrices in the second quarter should be about 17%. Considering that in the case of a TV, at least 50% of the price falls on the matrix (in most cases even more – up to 90%), you can imagine how TVs will become more expensive later this year.
