Nvidia has unveiled a major update for its GeForce Now cloud gaming service. Service users can access GeForce RTX 3080 graphics in the cloud at a new rate.
Towards the end of 2021, GeForce Now will have access to what Nvidia calls “the most powerful gaming supercomputer ever created,” for streaming PC games from Steam and Epic Store to Windows, macOS, iOS, Android devices, and Android TV.
Today, the company begins accepting pre-orders from select GeForce Now members. The new plan with access to GeForce RTX 3080 modules is offered primarily to GeForce Now members in the US and Europe with Founders and Priority subscriptions – with a six-month membership at a price of $ 99.99. This is $ 50 more than the Priority plan.
Pre-orders “for the elite” open today, and by the end of October, pre-orders will be available for everyone. The service is due to launch in the US in November and across Europe in December.
A GeForce Now RTX 3080 subscription brings video streaming up to 1440p at 120fps (PC and Mac), 4K HDR support at 60fps on NVIDIA Shield TV. Some Android smartphones will also support 120fps. The duration of the session will also be increased to 8 hours.
While Nvidia is touting its new offering as an “RTX 3080 in the cloud,” the company isn’t actually connecting retail options for RTX 3080 cards to data centers. Instead, it uses the equivalent performance Ampere GA102, but which is suitable for servers. Nvidia is equipping these servers with eight-core AMD Threadripper processors, 28GB of DDR4 memory, and Gen4 SSDs. Nvidia promises 35 teraflops of GPU performance, more like the RTX 3090 and about three times the size of the Xbox Series X.
