Occupancy rate of ICU and ward beds in BH is on red alert

The occupancy rate of ICU and ward beds in Belo Horizonte (MG) is at a red alert level. This Thursday (13), the capital of Minas Gerais reached 73.6% of intensive care units occupied, while in the ward the rate is over 80%.

The numbers show an upward movement in hospitalizations in the city in 2022. On December 31, 2021, for example, 65% of the wards were occupied, while the rate was at 51.7% for ICUs.

After nine months, this Wednesday (12), the occupation of ICU beds went on red alert. The mark has not been reached since April 2021.

The need for nursing units also increased significantly earlier this year. On January 3, in the first bulletin released by the city hall, the total occupation exceeded 73%, triggering the red alert also after nine months.

Belo Horizonte today has 302,990 confirmed cases of Covid-19 and 7,126 deaths. More than two million residents of the capital of Minas Gerais received the second dose or single dose of vaccines against the disease. More than 560,000 took the booster dose.

The prefecture announced the opening of 15 infirmary beds dedicated to Covid in the last two days. According to the municipal management, in January alone, 145 Covid Infirmary beds were created, from 220, in the first week of the month, to 365, this Thursday.
