Information about the crimes
According to information from the yearbook, 78% of cell phone thefts last year occurred on public roads. In the case of thefts, 44% occurred on streets and avenues.
Regarding the days of the week, most thefts (35%) occurred on Saturdays and Sundays. Robberies are more frequent between Tuesday and Friday.
The data indicate that cell phone thefts affected men and women in equal proportions, but thefts affected men more (58% of the total). Young people between 20 and 29 years old were the ones who had the most devices stolen.
“The analysis of the dynamics associated with cell phone thefts and robberies in Brazil confirms the idea that they are crimes of opportunity and susceptible to several variables of location, time, victims’ purchasing power and type of device”, says the Brazilian Public Security Forum.
