Officer told police that he shot at the car in which the child was shot because he heard the sound of a gunshot.

The federal highway police officer who fired the shots that hit a 3-year-old child in the head in Arco Metropolitano, in Seropédica, Baixada Fluminense, on the night of last Thursday (07), said in a statement to the Civil Police that he fired “after hearing a noise shooting.”

The agent reported that he and his colleagues began chasing the vehicle after realizing that it was the result of a robbery, and that moments after the chase began, he heard a noise similar to a gunshot, and then fired shots at the car.

The 3-year-old girl, who was in the car with her parents, an aunt and her sister, was shot in the head and taken to the Adão Pereira Nunes Municipal Hospital, in Duque de Caxias.

According to the latest update from City Hall, the child underwent a surgical procedure and is in serious condition in the hospital’s Intensive Care Center (CTI).

The case was registered at the 48th DP (Seropédica) and forwarded to the Federal Police (PF), which will continue the investigations.

The Minister of Justice and Public Security, Flávio Dino, took to social media and declared that he had requested clarification regarding the case.

The City of Duque de Caxias, through the Municipal Health Department, informs that H. dos SS, 3 years old, who was admitted to the Hospital Municipalizado Adão Pereira Nunes (HMAPN), at 9:07 pm this Thursday (07/09), victim of PAF, remains in serious health condition at the moment.
The patient was taken to the unit by PRF vehicle, presenting a perforation in the left cervical region, in addition to the lesion on the scalp and softened left occipital region. The management of HMAPN informs that, upon admission to the unit, the child was evaluated by ICNP, neurosurgery and pediatrics, with imaging and laboratory tests carried out, being sent to the surgical center, where he underwent the procedure and, at the moment, is intubated in the hospital’s ICU and her health condition is serious.
