A 20-year-old man is hospitalized in a comatose state after being stung bees-killers more than 20,000 times, as reported by his relatives and a local TV channel.
On Tuesday night, Austin Bellamy was intubated and placed in an induced coma at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center in Ohioaccording to Fox 19.
“He’s fighting for his life,” his mother, Shona Carter, said on a fundraising website page asking for donations to pay for hospitalizations.
Last Friday, Austin Bellamy was pruning a cherry tree when he unwittingly cut a bee hive. These insects, also known by the name “Africanized bees”are particularly aggressive.
“He was hollering, ‘Help! Help me! Help!’ And nobody would help him,” said Phyllis Edwards.

Austin’s grandmother and uncle, who were by his side, saw the attack but were unable to intervene as they themselves became targets of the bees. “He was screaming: ‘help, help’ and no one could help him”, his grandmother, Phyllis Edwards, recounted. “I was trying to climb the ladder to reach him” but “I couldn’t because I was surrounded by bees.” he added.
Sona Carter said the young man was stung more than 20,000 times and swallowed about 30 bees. The nurses “they took away his bees until Sunday morning”he said.
Doctors believe that Austin Bellamy will make a full recovery as reported by the Athens News Agency.
