Omicron Mutation: “No” Faucet in booster dose that will specifically target the new variant

The neutralizing effect of the two doses of the Moderna vaccine for Covid-19 is “significantly low” against Omicron mutation, said today the director of the National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), citing data collected by this US agency.

However, the booster dose of the vaccine restores the action of Moderna’s preparation “within the radius of neutralization of Omicron”, pointed out the leading epidemiologist of the country Anthony Fauci during today’s briefing for journalists at the White House.

Therefore, according to Fauci, there is – at the moment – no need for a booster dose to target specifically this variant.

Three doses of the Covid-19 vaccine (or two in the case of the initial single-dose vaccine) are “optimal”, Mr. Fauci had stated, again, days ago.

It should be noted, finally, that earlier today the head of the CDC Rochelle Wallenski confirmed that, based on the first data, Omicron is more contagious than Delta. He noted, however, that cases of it have been identified in 36 United States of America.
