On the first payday of Auxílio Brasil, Caixa’s branch is blown up in Rio

An agency of Caixa Econômica Federal was the target of an explosion in the early hours of this Wednesday (17), in Vila Isabel, in the northern part of Rio de Janeiro.

The place was destroyed and part of the ceiling lining came down. According to the Fire Department, the barracks in the region were activated around 4:00 in the morning.

On social networks, residents reported a loud noise. Videos show the movement of the Military Police in the place at dawn. According to the corporation, the military police of the 6th BPM (Tijuca) were called and found the damage to the establishment.

The case will be investigated by the Federal Police, as the CEF belongs to the union. The police will hear a homeless person as a witness. According to the PF, the investigation will be carried out as soon as the Bomb Squad of CORE releases the site. There were no injuries.

The explosion takes place on the day that Caixa Econômica Federal starts to pay the new Federal Government benefit.

A restructured version of Bolsa Família, the program was called Auxílio Brasil and will start with a value below the R$ 400 promised by the government. The benefit, which has an average value of R$ 217.18, is intended for families in poverty and extreme poverty.
