Organization of Carnival in Rio has 24 hours to present a permit for the Sambadrome

The Rio de Janeiro Fire Department decided to send a technical team to carry out an emergency inspection at the Marques de Sapucaí Sambadrome, in the center of the capital of Rio de Janeiro.

The action was taken in response to a court decision that determined that Carnival organizers need to present documents attesting to the security of the place within 24 hours, under penalty of interdicting the Sambadrome.

In the action taken by CNN and forwarded to the Public Treasury Court, lawyer Victor Travancas points out that the technical tests are being carried out in the midst of setting up the space for Carnival, which could pose a risk to revelers.

There are even rehearsals scheduled for this weekend. According to Liesa, which promotes Carnival, the schools Mocidade Independente de Padre Miguel and Mangueira will occupy the Sambódromo this Sunday night (29).

Tickets are also already being sold for the Carnival parades. The first presentations are by the Access Group, on February 17th. There are four straight days of parades.

According to the Fire Department, Riotur, the city hall agency that organizes and promotes Carnival, has not yet signed the Conduct Adjustment Term, which provides for the carrying out of fire and accident prevention works.

The problem has been recurring for years. As the sambódromo has a structure that is assembled and disassembled every Carnival, there is no definitive document that grants permanent authorization for events in the place.

Precisely for this reason, the authorizations issued by the corporation are provisional, and vary according to the structure set up. Every year, corporate agents visit the site and carry out inspections.

The court’s decision was confirmed by the CNN by the advice of the Court of Justice. The report got in touch with Riotur and is waiting for a response.
