The head of United Nations (UN) aid coordination said this Thursday (7) that the UN operation does not work properly in southern Gaza.
“Our humanitarian program no longer works,” emphasized UN emergency relief coordinator Martin Griffiths.
Trucks entering Gaza have to travel through destroyed roads and, if they manage to do so, they will perhaps be able to distribute “some food or water” to “some people”, he highlighted.
“It’s erratic. It’s not reliable. And, frankly, it is not sustainable”, pondered Griffiths.
However, the pace of the Israeli military operation is a “direct repetition of the attack in northern Gaza”, said the official.
Since Tuesday (5), the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have been operating in the city of Khan Younis, in southern Gaza, involved in “intense battles” with Hamas fighters.
A video obtained by Reuters news agency on Thursday showed a number of injured Palestinians rushing to Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis after a series of Israeli attacks.
“None of us can see where this will end. None of us can see where the people packed into that southern pocket of Gaza – those two million people – will go,” she mused.
