“Our vision cannot be merely fiscal or monetary”, says Rogério Marinho

The Minister of Regional Development, Rogério Marinho, defended that Brazil’s vision “cannot be merely fiscal or monetary” in contrast to challenges for “social accessibility” in the country. The statement was made at the IX Legal Forum in Lisbon this Tuesday (16).

“Our challenge is to understand this situation, to adapt to it, understanding that our Brazil is a country that is not limited to investors, to those who have only the capital. We are an unequal country,” said Marinho.

“Our vision cannot necessarily be merely fiscal or merely monetary. We have to have social accessibility, as this government had”, he defended.

The minister participates in the forum along with other members of the federal government, the legislature, the Federal Supreme Court and Brazilian legal entities.

At the same event, the president of the Central Bank, Roberto Campos Neto, stated that it would be interesting for Brazil to offer “some cuts in spending” to establish solid credibility in the international market.

“I understand the difficulty and understand that the political world generates its limitations in this regard. But the fact is: what we have to look forward to is what will balance the perception in the future, regardless of what is happening in the short term”, said the BC president.

Marinho, on the other hand, stated that his political trajectory of more than 30 years has made him try to build “consensus” over time, and that, soon, “all parametric models from an economic point of view will be redesigned ”.

“The economic packages that are existing in the world will not stop now. So this crisis of supply or excess liquidity will continue and maybe even stronger”, he said. “We are a complex country. A country with many challenges yet to be overcome”, he added.

For Marinho, “you can’t govern a people or a country just taking into account the thinking of those who have economic power.” The minister also highlighted that, in his view, the role of the government “is to reduce regional inequalities”.

“I assure you that we are extremely convinced that the path is this: to put the government at the service of the populations that most need it”, he said. “It’s having fiscal responsibility, monetary responsibility, but above all, social responsibility”.
