Outburst of violence in the highest security prison because french fries were removed from the menu

A significant increase in violence occurred in the HMP Wakefield High Security Prison, known as “Monster Mansion”, after removing french fries from the menu, according to an Independent Monitoring Board (IMB) report. Violence increased by 63% in the last year, with 272 recorded incidents compared to 167 last year. The prison, located in Western Yorkshire and hosts some of Britain’s most dangerous killers and sexual criminals, has seen a dramatic rise to incidents of violence both between prisoners and against staff. According to the Daily Mail, one of the main causes of dissatisfaction seems to be the reduction of fried potatoes due to damage to six of the kitchen fryers. As a result, fried potatoes were served with a circular program only once a week per wing. Of the 2,644 official complaints filed by the detainees, 84 concerned the food, with a more frequent protest of the lack of fried potatoes.
