P. Geroulanos (KINAL): My candidacy wants to change the system

Pavlos Geroulanos, candidate for the presidency of the Movement for Change, gave an interview yesterday on SKAI 100.3 radio.

He cited the danger of limiting turnout in the by-elections due to the pandemic. He argued that such a thing would have multiple negative effects on the dynamics that are developing in recent weeks in society but also on the power that the next leader will have. He wondered who could benefit from a lukewarm participatory process, using an example of athletic tactics that often, as he put it, ends in an “own goal”:

I am beyond the logic that, because someone is elected by a closed core, he also wants a small participation. Have you ever seen in football that you say “I will lose in this round, to play with an easier opponent later” and in the end you follow a tactic that turns against you. I am very afraid that the more we shrink the ability of the people to participate, the more we score an own goal. At this time it is important to open the process.

Referring to his electoral tactics and political proposal, he spoke of a candidacy that has no rival except the society of the few, emphasizing that his trial proposal is an option that overturns the system:

I am neither for nor against any other candidate. I have dealt with the problems as I have experienced them both from the private sector and from the public. You know that in my business I have succeeded but also in the Ministry I tried to do my best under that circumstance. My candidacy is a candidacy that wants to change the system. So that power and wealth come into the hands of many. An opponent in these matters is not a candidate. We have only one policy, towards the few.

Pavlos Geroulanos, of course, commented on the polls that have come to light in recent days with findings that are open to many interpretations and readings, giving his own approach:

I say polls have their value. But if you only act on these you can make decisions that are very wrong. I really believe that these elections are elections of perspective. Who will be able to give perspective to the space, to give perspective to the country, after. I think we have a very serious message and we keep bringing it forward. Which I see capitalizing at least on “popularity”. This is a first step, so that they can come and vote for you. Well, let things unfold and we will be here to discuss.
