The President of Panama, Laurentino Cortiso, made the vaccination against COVID-19 mandatory for all public officials in the Central American state on Wednesday, announced the Minister of Health of his government, Luis Francisco Sucre.

“Today (Wednesday) we signed a decree with the president making vaccination mandatory for all civil servants,” he said. “They must continue to be open,” the minister told the press.

“Any public official who does not wish to be vaccinated” should submit a negative test (for SARS-CoV-2) every Monday to his manager or staff member, “he said.

In Panama, a small country of 4.2 million people, more than 500,000 cases of the new coronavirus have been confirmed and 7,455 people have succumbed to COVID-19 complications.
