Pope Francis plans to make his first appearance in five weeks on Sunday (23), offering a blessing from the window of his room at Gemelli Hospital in Rome, while fighting double pneumonia.
Francisco, 88, was admitted to the hospital on February 14 with a severe respiratory infection that required evolutionary treatment.
On Friday (21), Cardinal Victor Manuel Fernandez said that the pontiff is recovering his forces at the hospital, but should “relearn” after prolonged high flow oxygen treatment.
The cardinal, who is the head of the Vatican doctrinal office, rejected the speculation that the Pontiff would retire and said he was “returning to his former self.”
“The Pope is doing very well, but oxygen of high flowing dry flow all. He needs to relearn to speak, but his general physical condition is the same as before,” Fernandez said in the presentation of a new book by Francisco on poetry.
