Pope Francis said on Wednesday that he was still suffering from an outbreak of bronchitis and asked an advisor to read prepared comments for a weekly Vatican audience for the second time in two weeks.
“I, with my bronchitis, can not (read) yet,” said the pontiff. “I hope next time I can.”
Francisco, 88, has been a pope since 2013 and has suffered from flu and other health problems several times in the last two years.
Last week, the pontiff spoke to pilgrims at the weekly audience that was suffering from a “strong cold”, which the Vatican later described as bronchitis.
While Francisco jumped the main part of his weekly message on Wednesday, he remained present at the one-hour audience and spoke briefly at several points during the meeting.
The Pope has maintained his daily appointment agenda and participated in meetings at the Vatican’s residence where he lives.
On Tuesday (11), he also made a video appearance at the popular Sanremo Music Festival in Italy.
The Catholic leader recently suffered two falls at his Vatican residence, hurting his chin in December and hurting his arm in January.
