Paraguayan military man is run over and killed by deer in the presidential palace

A Paraguayan military man died after being attacked by a deer while working in security at the presidential residence in the capital Asunción, officials said on Tuesday (4th).

Assistant infantry sergeant Victor Isasi Flecha, 42, died on Monday night (3) from “piercing wounds” caused by the animal, which ran a horn into its chest, according to a statement from the military forces of Paraguay.

The case involved an eagle deer from India, which was donated to the presidential residence, Environment Ministry Wildlife Director Frederick Bauer told reporters.

Infantry spokesman Victor Urdapilleta told Reuters that closed-circuit cameras captured the moment the soldier approached the deer and was attacked.

Confirmation of death took place in a military hospital. Urdapilleta said there is no record of similar attacks by animals kept in the presidential residence, which have included ostriches and ponies in previous administrations.

The animals are kept in a restricted area and do not have frequent contact with visitors to the palace, which is located in a residential area of the capital.
