Parliament: The amendment for the subsidy of the printed press was voted in favor

The amendment for the strengthening of the enterprises of the printed press, in order to be able to overcome the financial difficulties that have been created for them, from the energy crisis, was approved by a majority by the Plenary Session of the Parliament.

ND and SYRIZA voted in favor of the regulation. Hellenic Solution declared “present” while PASOK-KINAL, KKE and MeRA25 voted against.

Defending the amendment, the Undersecretary to the Prime Minister and Government Spokesman, Giannis Oikonomou, pointed out that “the printed press is being tested harshly, both due to the reduction of their circulation and the increase of their operating expenses due to the energy crisis”.

“The government, with the amendment, wants to help the print media and the newspapers that are struggling to cope with their mission, by subsidizing the transportation costs and subsidizing the newsprint,” he noted.

As Mr. Oikonomou stated, the grant is unrestricted and inalienable, it is applied horizontally, while with a joint ministerial decision that will be issued in a short time, the procedure, terms and conditions will be determined.

“In this way, virtually all print businesses are supported horizontally and this is proof of our recognition of the need to strengthen information pluralism.

This amendment is just one part of our overall toolkit to support the print media and especially the regional one, so that they can cope with the difficulties they face “, added Mr. Economou.

The amendment was submitted to the bill of the Ministry of Finance for the modernization and reopening of the Scaramanga Shipyards and the creation of a Casino in Elliniko.
