PASOK-Movement for Change: 95% said ‘yes’ to the new name and the return of the green sun

PASOK-Movement for Change: 95% said ‘yes’ to the new name and the return of the green sun

Charilaou Trikoupi acquires a composite name as the name PASOK-Movement for Change recorded a percentage of 95% with a total of 179,005 people having voted across the country, according to leaks about the final result of Sunday’s internal party elections.

The turnout came as a surprise even to Charilaou Trikoupi’s staff, who were expecting much smaller numbers, below 100,000. The seemingly indifferent internal elections for the leadership of the municipal and prefectural committees, but also for the nomination of 4,600 representatives at the forthcoming congress (May 20-22) seem to have rekindled the interest of the members and friends of the Movement, five months after the formal election. Nikos Androulakis in the leadership last December.

The vote on the name gained strong symbolic significance, as party members were asked to choose between the existing “Movement for Change” and the historic “PASOK – Movement for Change” marked with the traditional green sun. The scales tilted sweeping in favor of the latter, with percentages close to 90%.

It is noted that the voting did not concern the “friends” who participated in the election of a leader, but only registered members, which, however, could be registered on the spot.

In Charilaou Trikoupi, the satisfaction and the wide smiles for the participation are obvious, which the president described as “shocking”.

According to information, a significant number of young voters participated in these elections. It is characteristic, as they say from Charilaou Trikoupi, that 10-15% of those who voted did not even participate in the election of a leader in December, while 40% are under 35 years old.

The executives estimate that five months later there is stabilization and homogenization of the party public and now, after yesterday, there is a new starting point.

Transfers of Chrysogonos – Adamos

The new “transfers” of the party also stood out from the internal party elections, and in fact from the area of the Left.

In Thessaloniki, the former MEP of SYRIZA, Costas Chrysogonos, voted and became a member, while the independent MP of B ‘Thessaloniki (former MERA25), Konstantina Adamou, did the same.

Both have become registered members, join the party and will participate in the upcoming congress, however Ms. Adamou will remain an independent MP for reasons of principle, as Nikos Androulakis does not want to be accused of “acquisitions of seats”.

Nikos Androulakis: The sun is back – The participation is shocking

The party president, Nikos Androulakis, expressed his complete satisfaction for the great participation in the internal elections of PASOK – Movement for Change, late Sunday night.

“Your shocking participation strengthened the hope that was born in December. I thank the over 170 thousand members, who gave a potential presence, taking the future of the party in their hands”, said Mr. Androulakis and announced that “the citizens decided: “Our symbol, the sun, is back. Along with the memories of a historical faction, identified with our people’s struggles for democracy, social justice and national dignity.”

The president of PASOK-KINAL, who apparently will now be the official name of the party, stressed that “expectations have returned that the Democratic Party will return again, together with the forces of the Greek Social Democracy, the renewal left and the ecology movements, the voice of creative Greece.

Greece of progress, solidarity and development. The voice of the Greeks, who long for a better future, seeking transparency and meritocracy “.

Also note the voice of the younger generations who are fighting for more opportunities in their lives.

“We are building day by day a new relationship of trust with the Greek people in every field of the great challenges of our time,” he said, expressing optimism for the crucial social and political battles that lie ahead.

“We are moving forward with PASOK-Movement for Change. We will all succeed together. We will all win together”, concluded Nikos Androulakis.
