“I wanted to bring something different, that would impact the public in Leblon, without losing the essence of Pato com Laranja. I thought of something that goes very well with my lifestyle. I love the beach and I love mixing work with leisure. It coincided with the point being free. We signed the contract in December and in February we started operations. It was a quick implementation and the realization of a dream of bringing a sushi bar to Leblon beach”, emphasizes Pedro Tinoco, one of the partners.

The story that began in 1993

Although the current generation of Cariocas have known Pato com o Laranja in Ipanema since 2018, the history of the restaurant begins much earlier, in 1993, in the center of the city. Chef Andrea Tinoco ran the establishment named after one of her favorite dishes – and, of course, one of the house’s flagships: Pato com Laranja.

With two partners, he also brought Japanese food to the forefront of the menu and implemented the idea of a “Sushi Bar” when it was not very common to see in the city.

The restaurant closed its doors in 2000 after the central region underwent extensive renovations and impacted access to the street on which it was located. The family then opened the Devassa bar in Ipanema, where it stayed for 17 years. In 2018, after Pedro’s dream, they decided to rescue the old brand’s name and proposal, with some contemporary touches, in the same place as the family bar.

Since then, the place has been known for its good cuisine, the presence of executives during the day and a lively crowd at night, who take the opportunity to dine and enjoy a daily performance by guest DJs. There, the customer finds different options on the menu divided by snacks and contemporary dishes on one side and on the other options from the sushi bar.
