Paul Mescal on Ridley Scott’s decision on “Gladiator 2”: “Anger forever”

The Irish actor Paul Mescal 28, is about to debut in the biggest film of his career, “Gladiator 2” but, in an interview with GQ magazine, he revealed a decision to Ridley Scott that will make him “forever angry” with the director.

“The one thing I will forever be mad at Ridley for [Scott, diretor] it’s his deep desire to record in the height of summer, like a pale Irish boy who doesn’t do well in the heat, in armor, covered in fake tan and sweat, rolling around,” he declared.

Mescal is the protagonist of the film that follows up on “Gladiator” (2000). The title is set 25 years after the events of the first film, in which Maximus (Russell Crowe), a powerful Roman general, awakens the wrath of Marcus Aurelius’s (Richard Harris) son, Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix), before the emperor’s death. . When the heir takes power, he is sentenced to death, however, he manages to escape and goes into hiding as a slave and gladiator while seeking revenge.

The new plot centers on Lucius, son of Lucilla and nephew of Commodus, who was inspired by Maximus. In the first film, the character is a child, played by Spencer Treat Clark

When he was still young, Lucilla sent him to the north coast of Africa, to a region called Numidia that was – at that time – beyond the reach of the Roman Empire. Older, he lives a relatively peaceful life with his wife and children until the conquerors of his homeland invade his new home, under the leadership of a general trained by Maximus.

Names like Pedro Pascal (“The Last of Us” and “The Mandalorian”), Denzel Washington (“Time of Glory” and “Training Day”), Connie Nielsen (“Gladiator” and “Devil’s Advocate”) and Joseph Quinn (“Stranger Things” and “Game of Thrones”) also make up the film’s cast.

“Gladiador 2” hits Brazilian cinemas on November 14th.
