Earlier today, US Secretary of State Nikos Dendias met with US Ambassador Jeffrey Payat. After the meeting, the American ambassador reiterated Washington’s position that Greek sovereignty over the islands is unquestionable.
The meeting focused on Greece-US strategic cooperation, the latest developments in the Eastern Mediterranean in the light of recent provocative statements by Turkish officials and developments in Eastern Europe, according to a relevant post by the Foreign Ministry on twitter.
The American ambassador on his part in a post on twitter expressed his pleasure for the meeting with Mr. Dendias, where the latest developments were discussed.
“We reaffirmed our commitment to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine,” he said. “As we discussed our common goals for regional stability, I reaffirmed what Washington has made clear: Greece’s sovereignty over its islands is unquestionable,” he said.
