PayPal, Google, Visa and Mastercard will help the Bank of England study government cryptocurrencies

The Bank of England has disclosed the composition of working groups that will help the regulator study the prospects for state-owned cryptocurrencies. They included representatives from PayPal, Visa, Google, Mastercard, ConsenSys and others.

The British regulator brought together two “forums” – CBDC Engagement Forum and CBDC Technology Forum. The first participants will discuss the prospects for state digital currencies in terms of regulation, impact on society and the necessary functionality. And the “Technological Forum” will work out the technological issues of the development of digital currencies.

The meeting of the Technology Forum participants is to take place at the end of September. Considering that today is September 30, the last day of the month, the meeting should take place today. CBDC Engagement Forum participants will meet later. In total, the working groups included 58 participants. In addition to technology companies, the working groups included representatives from banks, national associations and associations.

Let’s remind that there is no definite decision on the issue of digital pound sterling yet. However, back in May, the deputy governor of the Bank of England, John Cunliffe, announced that the release of the state cryptocurrency is possible, but only if “state money” does not lose popularity.
