Peshkov: The severance of diplomatic relations with Western countries is not ruled out

LAST UPDATE: 18.48

The Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peshkov did not rule out the possibility of severing diplomatic relations with Western countries on Wednesday if the expulsion of Russian diplomats continues, according to the Russian news agency Ria Novosti.

“Yes, if the practice of deporting our diplomats continues, there is such a potential danger, as we are faced with hostile actions on a daily basis. The deportation of diplomats is a decision that closes the window on diplomatic relations,” Peshkov said in an interview with French television. LCI channel, answering a question on whether there is a possibility of severing Russia’s diplomatic relations with France and other countries.

At the same time, he stressed the need to maintain diplomatic relations, especially in the current context.

Peshkov also noted that “if the EU abandons gas, Russia will export it to other countries.”

At the same time, Peshkov said that Ukraine must agree on the status of Crimea and the two self-proclaimed republics of Donbas, Donetsk and Lugansk.

The launch of a “special military operation” in Ukraine was not a mistake, Peshkov added.

“No, we are convinced that it was not wrong,” Peshkov said in an interview, when asked if Russia had made a historic mistake.

“Weapons supplied by the West to Kyiv will not prevent Russia from achieving its goals in Ukraine,” he said.
