The sector of hygiene and beautification of domestic animals grew 316% in the last six years. This is what a report developed by DataHub shows, a data analysis platform, which has the registration of approximately 50 million companies.
The survey carried out by the CNN this Monday (4) indicates that Brazil registered almost 23 thousand (22,943) physical pet shop stores in operation last year. In 2016, there were 5,500.
The survey also carried out an expanded survey, taking into account all companies in the animal sector, not just hygiene and beauty companies. In this case, the number of establishments reaches 110,200, with 64% being individual microentrepreneurs (MEIs).
The study also points out that more than 5,300 were opened in the last three months alone. Digital platforms aimed at the segment, such as pet bath scheduling, were the ones that increased the most in this period.
Even during the pandemic, pet shops recorded growth, according to DataHub’s analysis – a trend opposite to what happened to the service sector as a whole in Brazil.
“Many stores in the sector were closed, but, on the other hand, others were opened, which left this segment with positive results, when analyzed in a general context. We believe that during the pandemic, a period of high unemployment, people saw the segment as a possibility to employ. The numbers prove this, most stores in the sector are micro-entrepreneurs”, Jhon Macario, responsible for Business Intelligence (BI) at Datahub, explained to CNN.
In the comparison between states, São Paulo is the one that most concentrates companies in the sector with 33%, followed by Minas Gerais with 10.26%, Rio de Janeiro with 10.24%, Rio Grande do Sul with 8.48% and Paraná with 7.01%.
As for cities, São Paulo leads with 9,969 registered stores. Then come Rio de Janeiro (5,244), Brasília (2,344), Curitiba (2,170) and Belo Horizonte (2,145).
