Peter Morgan creator of the series “The Crown”, hopes that the recordings of the 6th season will be stopped indefinitely out of respect for the queen elizabeth II who died this Thursday (8), aged 96, at Balmoral Castle, Scotland.
In a statement sent to the American press, Morgan also said that he is very sorry for the queen’s death and that the production is “a love letter” to her.
“The Crown is a love letter to her and I have nothing to add for now, just silence and respect. I hope we stop filming out of respect too,” he said.
According to the website “Deadline”, Netflix has had plans for some time to stop the series if she died during filming.
Early on in production, Stephen Daldry, one of the episode directors for the first season, which showed Claire Foy as the queen before ascending the throne, promised that the series would be discontinued for an extended period if that happened.
“None of us knows when that moment will come, but it would be right and proper to show the Queen respect. It would be a simple tribute and a sign of respect. She’s a global figure and that’s what we should do,” he told Deadline in 2016, when “The Crown” debuted on Netflix.
“The Crown” had three actresses who played the queen: Claire Foy, Olivia Colman and Imelda Staunton which appears in the next season, scheduled to premiere in November.
