Petrobras ignores the transition team’s request and concludes the sale of the Manaus refinery

Petrobras announced this Wednesday night (30) that it concluded today the sale process of the refinery of the Manaus company, REMAN, to the private group Atem.

Last week, the transition team of the new Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva government asked the current government, in a meeting with the Minister of Mines and Energy, Adolfo Sachsida, that the process of selling the refinery be interrupted.

According to Petrobras, the sale was completed with the payment of US$ 257.2 million to the state-owned company. Today, the company received US$ 228.8 million – an amount that is added to the US$ 28.4 million paid upon signing the contract.

The refinery has a processing capacity of 46,000 barrels per day and the sale also includes a waterway terminal.

The sale process for the Amazonas refinery was launched in June 2019 and the sale contract was signed in August 2021 with Atem executives. In a statement, Petrobras says that “the operation is in line with the portfolio management strategy and the improvement of the company’s capital allocation, aiming at maximizing value and greater return to society”.

The Atem group operates in the field of fuel, road and river logistics, as well as shipbuilding. The company is over 20 years old and is present in 14 states in Brazil.
