A joint action by the Federal Police and the Navy seized 3.6 tons of cocaine on a vessel off the coast of Pernambuco that was destined for Africa, in the largest seizure of the drug ever carried out in the Brazilian sea, the Navy reported this Tuesday (19 ).
The seizure, made by a Navy ship carrying PF agents, occurred in the morning around 33 km from Recife, according to the statement.
The vessel carrying the cocaine had five crew members and was towed after the operation, the Navy said.
The action is part of the “Ágata Nordeste” operation, which involves security and inspection forces to combat cross-border and environmental crimes, according to the agency.
