Relatives of Bishop Phillips informed the CNN that the Federal Police (PF) released the body of the British journalist shortly before 4 pm this Thursday (23).
Along with the coffin, the PF handed over to the family his wedding ring, found near the place where the body was.
The ring was received by Phillips’ brother-in-law, Marcus, and will be given to his widow, Alessandra Sampaio. He also signed a term confirming the receipt of the sealed coffin by the Federal Police.
Phillips will be veiled in the city of Niterói, metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro, next Sunday (26). Until then, the journalist’s remains will be kept in a refrigerated area of the cemetery. The ceremony is scheduled for 9 am and should end around noon.
The body of indigenist Bruno Araujo, murdered along with the journalist, will be veiled this Friday (24/6) in Recife (PE). He is being transported on the same Federal Police jet that took the British journalist to Rio de Janeiro.
