PF Fights Illegal Migration of Foreigners in Northern Brazil

The Federal Police carried out the operation “Open Border”, this Tuesday morning (30), to combat illegal migration in Brazil.

Nine search and seizure warrants are being served, two in the municipality of Bonfim, on the Brazilian border with Guyana, and seven in Boa Vista – all issued by the 4th Federal Criminal Court of the Judiciary Section of Roraima.

The investigations began with the arrest in flagrante delicto of two suspects, who illegally entered Brazil with 21 foreigners in a van to obtain economic advantages.

The criminal organization, which operates on the border between Brazil and Guyana, has already made the crossing of hundreds of migrants – always charging high payments and in dollars.

According to the PF, the group acted during the night and had the participation of boatmen who helped in the crossing of the river that separates the two countries.

Soon after crossing the border, the migrants were hidden in the forest, until they were contacted by those directly responsible for the crossing.

The criminals had a structure that had drivers, caretakers, scouts and boatmen, who guaranteed the arrival of victims in the city of Manaus, in the state of Amazonas.

The Police also discovered that those involved were using hotels and inns in the scheme, where migrants without any documents from Brazil or Guyana stayed.

They had, the investigation indicates, relationships with other countries, such as the Dominican Republic.

The operation’s name refers to “Open Frontier”, treatment given to the border by the suspects.
