Pfizer asks Anvisa to use definitively the Covid-19 vaccine for children

Pfizer made official this Friday (12) the request to the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) to vaccinate children from five to 11 years against Covid-19.

Pfizer’s vaccine has been registered in Brazil since February 23, 2021. The initial registration covered people over 16 years of age. On June 11, Anvisa authorized the inclusion of the age group from 12 to 15 years old.

“Anvisa received a request from Pfizer to include the age group from 5 to 11 years old in the indication of its vaccine against Covid-19 (Comirnaty). The request entered Anvisa this Friday (12/11)”, said the agency in a statement

Normally, Anvisa takes between 2 to 3 weeks to decide on the possibility of a new vaccine. Last Tuesday (9), the laboratory and the agency met for a pre-application meeting. The official deadline is 30 days.

As informed by Pfizer, the dose of vaccine for children between 5 and 11 years will be modified and will be lower than the dose for people over 12 years. The laboratory explained that this adjustment is due to a new formulation developed by the company.
